Augrabies is an ancient landscape with fascinating geology. The black hills are called `Swart Rante` and are composed of Metagabbro, which contains no quartz and is made up of dark ferromagnesian minerals and feldspar. The giraffes are unusually light in colour, an adaptation to help deal with the extreme heat.
