Guanyin or Guan Yin, in Chinese pinyin literally means Observe World Sound, is an East Asian Bodhisattva of Compassion venerated by Mahayana Buddhists. When she hears people suffering she is said to shed Tears Of Compassion. As a Bodhisattva, she has awakened to the stage where she is allowed to leave the mortal world, but she is committed to remaining until she relieves all the suffering in the world. She is also known as Chenrezig and Kannon, and is considered one of the Immortals by Daoists. Alternate spellings are Kuan Yin, Kwun Yam, Kun Iam, Kanzeon, Kwannon. She often is depicted carrying a willow branch, or a vase or jar of pure water. Her mantra is Guan Shi Yin, Pu`sa. The statue is of green glass. The Hindu prayer beads are a string of 108 rose quartz, and the Rosary contains 54 beads with a crucifix.
