Bolnisi-Katarinebfeld in 1818 became the most inportant rural settlement of the germans in Georgia and specialised in winegrowing. Now the city is inhabited by Georgians, who make wine both in barrels according to the German tradition, and in Kvevri according to the Georgian tradition.
