Small deciduous trees; leaves narrowly elliptic to lanceolate, 15 cm long, 4 cm wide, apex long thin tip, margin serrulate, dark green and glossy, leaf base with nectary; bark dark gray, cracks with age; flowers solitary, from pale to deep pink or red, sometimes is white, with a short handle, 4 cm in diameter, early spring flowering; drupe subglobose, surface hairy, fleshy edible, reddish orange yellow, 7.5 cm in diameter, with deep pits and grooves of the nucleus, with white seeds.
