Aware! Grass snake smelling with its tongue

The grass snake lay in the sun in the ruin of an old house and to get warm. When it noticed me, it took shelter in the crevices in the wall. Soon thereafter it appeared and looked around to see if all was clear. I was in the direction of the wind so the snake could not pick up my scent, but it was quite aware that I was still there.
