Structure of the foam cell. Foam cell is a swollen macrophage filled with lipid inclusions. This cell serve as the hallmark of early stage atherosclerotic lesion formation. Cholesterol-loaded cells foam cells make plaque unstable, leading to heart attacks and strokes.
