The roman bridge, Cangas de Onis, Asturias, Spain

The Roman Bridge of Cangas de Onís –also known as the `Puente Vieyu` or `Puentón`– is one of the best-known symbols of the Region of Asturias. Although this site is thought to have been used in Roman times to cross the Sella River, a factor possibly leading to the establishment of Cangas de Onís as the first capital of the Kingdom of Asturias, the current `Roman Bridge` dates from mediaeval times, probably from the late 13th century.
