St. Roman Orthodox Monastery

The Monastery of St. Roman is a monastery of the Serbian Orthodox Church in the Diocese of Nis, near Razanj. On the basis of certain research, it is considered that the monastery of Saint Roman belongs to the oldest monasteries on the territory of Serbia since it dates from the 9th century. What he is widely known for is the fact that in his yard the heart of the Colonel of the Russian Army, Nikolai Nikolaevich Rajevsky, was buried. Rajevsky used Lav Tolstoi as an inspiration for Count Vronsky in the novel `Ana Karenjina`. His body was buried in Ukraine, but the heart remained in Serbia.
