San Francisco`s General Hospital has a history going back to 1850 when there was a cholera epidemic in the cities growing population. Initially using an old school in the North Beach neighborhood, with the first, permanent building at the current site opening in 1872, with the areas natural stone as foundation.nDuring the 1906 earthquake, with the stone foundation, the hospital survived intact, and was expanded the next year with a children`s ward and infectious disease ward.nThe hospital is still growing and expanding, with donations coming from various foundations. Most recently, after Facebooks Mark Zuckerberg`s donation, and the hospital was renamed for him. Pedestrian walkway connecting buildings.
