Frost Rimed Moss and Lichen on an Oak Tree. Lichens often form grey crusty or powdery growths often on the trunks and branches of trees. Together with various mosses they can be seen intermingling with each other entwined almost as one organism. They provide structural interesting and a colourful patchwork upon the starkness of trees in Winter. Mosses thrive in moist damp conditions whilst providing shelter for micro fauna.
