IN EMAVS 1626, on a white blank wall on the Begijnhof, Amsterdam

Pictured is a stone relief titled `IN EMAVS 1626`. It was part of a restoration project for eight worn 17th and 18th century stone plaques with biblical scenes. They were completely restored by restorer Wil Abels and installed on a blank white wall in the Begijnhof. The plaque depicts the Emmaus story in the Gospel of Luke. encounter on the road to Emmaus and the supper at Emmaus, and states that a disciple named Cleopas was walking towards Emmaus with another disciple when they met the resurrected Jesus. They did not recognize him, and discussed their sadness at his recent crucifixion. They persuaded him to come and eat with them, and at the meal they recognized him.
