One of the longest mountain chains on Earth, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains run from Poncha Pass in Colorado to southeast of Santa Fe, New Mexico. The name, Spanish for `blood of Christ `, is said to come from the red color the range displays during the most colorful sunrises and sunsets.
