Equestrian statue in front of the monastary of Batalha, Centro - Portugal
Although Batalha is only a small, peaceful town, it was the scene of Portugal`s most important battle, the Batalha de Aljubarrota 1385. This fight ensured the independence of Portugal from Castile and King João I had in their honor the Mosteiro da Batalha built, which today is the most beautiful monastery in Portugal.
