Monument to A. P. Maresyev in Kamyshin
In the homeland of Alexey Maresyev, in Kamyshin 180 kilometers from Volgograd, a monument in his honor. Despite the amputation of both legs during the great Patriotic war, Maresyev continued to fly with prostheses and shot down 11 enemy aircraft. The famous pilot, Hero of the Soviet Union, became the prototype of the hero of Boris Polevoy`s book `the Tale of a real man`.
