The Zarand Mountains are the western prolongation of the Apuseni Mountains, belonging to the Western Carpathian Mountains. They are located in a perimeter formed by the Mures River in the south, the Arad Plain to the west, the Crisul Alb River to the north and the Metaliferi Mountains to the East. The highest peak of the Zarand Mountains is the peak Drocea, 836 m. The beech, pine and oak forests, the pastures, meadows, orchards, acacias and wild rose composed the flora. The fauna is composed by vipers, lizards, woodpeckers, jays, cuckoos and mammals like: wolfs, deers, wild boars, wild cats and red foxes.
