Boulder field, Swietokrzyskie Mountains, Poland

Boulder field in the highest mountain chain Lysogory in the Swietokrzyskie Mountains, Mount Swiety Krzyz, Poland. The Świętokrzyskie boulder fields were created as a result of weathering of the late Cambrian quartzite sandstones in the period of the Quaternary. The main factor of the boulder fields creation was the climate, i.e. changes of temperature - freezing and thawing of the background; freezing of water in the cracks and fractures causing the disintegration of rocks. The name 'gołoborze' refers only to the Świętokrzyski region. The 'Gołoborze' became the symbol of the Świętokrzyskie Mountains.
