Past the Alcoves to Daylight at the Wilton Tunnel

On the Elroy Sparta rail trail; the first of its kind in the nation, This is one of 3 tunnels along the bicycle and recreation trail This tunnel is closest to Wilton Wisconsin and was completed in 1873. This is the only tunnel on the trail with alcoves built in so workers could move aside for passing steam trains.
