The Fontana del Mascherone, Giulia street, Rome

The fountain is set against the wall that separates Via Giulia from the Lungotevere, not far from the rear façade of Palazzo Farnese. It was built - presumably in the second quarter of the seventeenth century - at the expense of the Farnese as shown by the lily of the crowning by Girolamo Rainaldi 1570-1655, the same architect who in those years made twin fountains on Piazza Farnese
