Cathedral Basilica of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Sandomierz - a Gothic church built around 1360, expanded in the mid 15th century The baroque facade of the temple dates from 1670. In the years 1708ââ¬â1776 the interior was baroque. At the end of the 19th century, the cathedral was renovated according to the guidelines of Fr. Józef Karsznicki including brick facade cladding. The cathedral from 1818, the basilica smaller since 1960. Late baroque and rococo interior furnishings late baroque high altar in black inlaid marble, Rococo side altars carved by M. Polejowski. Polychromies in the presbytery and on the walls, in the Byzantine-Ruthenian style from the first half 15th century, discovered gradually and renewed in the years 1887ââ¬â1934, on the vault by J. Makarewicz 1933, in the naves of J. Bukowski 1935ââ¬â1939. The walls of the aisles are paneled with paintings 1708-1737, painted by Charles de Prevot, depicting, among others slaughter of the population of Sandomierz by the Tatars and ritual murder. There are numerous gravestones in the cathedral.
