Uffizi Gallery In 1581 Francis de Medici decided to transform the Uffizi Palace into a museum. His successors continued to expand the collection until 1737, when Anne-Marie-Louise de Medici, the last heiress of the Medici, donated his works of art to the citizens of Florence.
