In the southern part of the island we find the tumulus or Gavrinis Cairn. According to the latest research the mound was built in 3500 BC and was abandoned to disuse by 3000 BC. Thus, according to experts, part of the mound collapsed, hiding and blocking the main entrance. The wind-dragged sand slowly covered the stone building, finally transforming it into a small mound-shaped hill.
