The Temple of Saturn at Villa Torlonia in Rome

Also located in the beautiful park surrounding Villa Torlonia in Rome, is the so-called Temple of Saturn, a building constructed in 1836 by sculptor Giovan Battista Caretti that mimics an ancient temple surrounded by ruins. The construction of this temple drew inspiration from the Temple of Aesculapius Asprucci 1786 in Villa Borghese with its portico and four Doric columns of granite. In the pediment, a beautiful carved decoration in terracotta was executed by the artist Vincenzo Gajassi, an allegory for life and in the center, the god of time Saturn holding a scythe, between a snake and a lion
