Famous researchers like Aubrey or Stukeley were interested in Avebury during the VVII century and searched part of the site before it was destroyed. Archaeology research in the twentieth century was carried out by Alexander Keiller, where he rebuilt much of the monument. Carbon 14 dating and pollen analysis in buried soils have shown that the lowland environment changed around 4250-4000 BC. Supposedly when agriculture would begin.
