Starling on a tree branch in spring. The common Starling Sturnus vulgaris is a songbird of the Starling family, widely distributed over a large area of Eurasia, and successfully introduced to South Africa, North America, Australia and New Zealand. In the South and West of Europe, it is sedentary, while in the North and East it is migratory, migrating South during the winter months. Superficially size, yellow beak and dark plumage slightly resembles blackbirds, but unlike them walks on the ground, and does not jump.
