Pictured is an ancient chinese or imperial guardian lion at an entrance to the Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas. Traditionally appears to be a male as it has a round ball under it`s front foot, while if female it would have a cub. Typically made of stone, they are also called stone lions or shishi. In colloquial English they are called lion dogs or foo dogs. The concept originated and became popular in Chinese Buddhism.
