Magicians or magicians are people whose abilities from the perspective of the observer are not in line with his previous interpretation of the environment and cannot be interpreted by him religiously. In many cultures, those in power have relied on druids, medicine men and shamans to religiously consolidate their claim to power. Druids were also active as scouts and advisers and devised lists of war such as the fogging of battlefields by burning ash wood. Even after the Christianization of the formerly Celtic areas, many princes followed two tracks by making use of the healing arts, horoscopes and prophecies of the Druids. Since the druids were very learned, cultivated the fine arts such as music and still enjoyed a reputation among the people, they now conveyed high status as bards to their respective patrons. Even Charlemagne kept a court astrologer, even though, in conformity with the church, he prohibited his subjects from astrology.
