Akdamar Church Akdamar island and / Van - Turkey
The Church of the Holy Cross or the Cathedral of the Holy Cross on Akdamar Island was built by the architect Manuel in 915-921 by the order of King Gagik I to house a part of the True Cross, which is said to have been brought to Van region in the 7th century after being smuggled from Jerusalem to Iran.
