Old steps of Maria Radna Franciscan Monastery in Arad, Romania.

The history of this monastery extends over a period of almost 500 years. The first church was built here by Franciscan monks who came from Bosnia in 1520, at a time when the Turks ruled south of MureÈ™, in Banat. They attacked the church several times, and it was rebuilt several times. The construction of the current church, in a superb Baroque style, began in 1752 and was completed in 1782. The buildings and annexes belonging to the monastery were built in several stages. At the beginning of the stairs arranged laterally, very imposing is the statue of St. Anton, one of the greatest Catholic saints. The church is very imposing due to its very large size and the two 67 meter high towers. The Latin Catholic Feast of the Assumption is celebrated on 15 August and the Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholics celebrate the Dormition of the Mother of God. Here is organized the largest Catholic pilgrimage in the Banat region, every year on August 15 by St. Mary. Radna, Arad county, Romania, Europe.
