Cromelech of Almendres is the biggest structured group of dolmens in Iberia, and one of the most important in Europe. It is located 13 Km from Evora in Alentejo in the south of Portugal. It is considered to be 8000 years old and is composed of 95 megaliths. It is believed that the monument had religious purposes as well as functioning as a primitive astronomical observatory and to have been a temple dedicated to a solar cult.
