Llamas graze and rest with the walls of Kuelap. Kuelap was built by the Chachapoyas culture in the 6th century AD. The walled city is located on a limestone ridge overlooking the Utcubamba Valley. Once difficult to reach, tourism has increased greatly with the installation of a cable car to reach the ancient site.
