Although the first paper shredder was invented in 1909, by Abbot Low, it was never produced, as he died shortly after filling for the patent. Once they started being produced, originally they were only used by governments, until the mid 1980`s. when personal identity theft started to become an issue. Now home shredders are about as common as home printers.
