Initiation Well
View up from the Initiation Well of Quinta da Regaleira. This well, was used in initiation ceremonies and modelled on Knights Templar and masonic symbolism. The spiral staircase has nine sections, recalling the nine circles of hell, the nine terraces of purgatory and the nine spheres of heaven, depicted by Dante in The Divine Comedy.
