Issei Garden San Francisco, 2.

People were initially coming to San Francisco slowly, in the early 1800`s, from through out the growing country and the rest of the world. Then the floodgates were opened with the discovery of gold, and people were just flooding into San Francisco. The first group of Japanese people to come to America landed in San Francisco, establishing the first Japantown there in the late 1800`s. Being the immigrant group, they are know as Issei, `The First`. And they brought the love of gardening along with them. When WW2 came and the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the Japanese and their children were immediately rounded up, even if they were legally born here, and put into American Concentration Camps, and lost everything in the process. In January 2020, this rock garden was dedicated to their memory. As seen October 2021.
