Pictured is an equestrian statue of Dom Joao I in Figueira Square in Lisbon, Portugal. He was also known as John I of Portugal and lived from 1357 to 1433. This bronze sculpture is the work of sculptor Leopoldo de Almeida. It was inagurated in the square in 1971. The monument also carries medallions with the effigies of Nuno ÃÂlvares Pereira and João das Regras, two key characters in the 1385 Revolution that brought John I to power.
