Village of Manastir in the Bulgarian Rhodope

The village of Manastir is a high mountain village located in the Rhodopes. The center of the village has an altitude of 1460 meters. The area in which it is located is heavily rugged - ridges, peaks and deep ravines overgrown with beech, spruce and fir. It is located about 20-22 km from the town of Lucky and about 50 km from Plovdiv.The village of Manastir was founded on September 8, 1890. According to the legend, the village was founded on the remains of an old settlement, near a ruined monastery, hence its name. The village was built by settlers from the village of Davidkovo, who after the Liberation were looking for a new place to build their homes.Monastery is the highest settlement on the Balkan Peninsula.
