Vaccinium vitis-idaea is an evergreen shrub, a species of the genus Vaccinium of the Heather family. Berries are widely used in cooking, leaves are used in medicine. It grows in coniferous and mixed forests, in mountain and plain tundra, is especially characteristic of pine and pine-spruce forests, occurs in grass clearings, alpine meadows, sometimes in swamps.
