The Red shouldered hawk, Buteo lineages, can be found along costal North America, and down to central Mexico during migrating season. Well known for their very keen sense of vision, they use this while souring high over their prey, usually small rodents, reptiles and amphibians, as well as other birds and insects. When ready, they suddenly drop down on the animal, grabbing it with their large, sharp talons. They are also monogamous.
