The Elm tree, Ulmus, is generally considered as just an attractive landscaping tree. Indeed, a number of artists, famous and unknown, have done paintings of Elm trees, for their grace and beauty. The wood from the elm has been used for many purposes like making bows, and ship building, going back to ancient times and around the world. There are medicines made from elm, and parts can be fed to grazing animals. It was also used as food for humans during a great famine in Norway in 1812.
