Wat Pho, located in the Phra Nakhon District, is one of Bangkok's oldest temples. It is well-known as the home of Thailand's largest Reclining Buddha statue. The image represents the Buddha's entry into Nirvana, with the Buddha lying on his side and his hand supporting his head, and is referred to as sihasaiyas- the posture of a sleeping or reclining lion. The gold gilded statue is 15 meters high & 46 meters long, taking up virtually all of the viharn (chapel) which houses it.
