The extinct volcano of Racos is found in an area with poorer, reddish vegetation. In the past, volcanic slag was mined on these places. It was declared a protected area and reserve Persani Geopark. The landscape left after the exploitations is fantastic and particularly picturesque. For a geology enthusiast, the place is perfect for studying all types of slag, ash, pumice stone, volcanic bombs, basalts, hardened lava, etc. Geologists say the site is similar to Mount Etna in Italy, where the same rock types and colors are found.
