Few have heard of Piatra Clo?anilor, a rather lonely mountain, which is part of the Mehedin?i Mountains group (otherwise known for their roofs), surrounded by low areas and with few marked trails, but of a particular wildness and beauty. Piatra Clo?anilor "stands out" as a massif, visible from all directions - its rocky part (the northwestern one) is visible from the mountains of Cernei, Godeanu, from Oslea, Retezatul Mic, and even Retezat, while the more wooded part (south-east) can be observed from Vârful lui Stan, and on very clear days even from Parâng. The highest point is the peak of Piatra Mare a Clo?anilor (1421m), but there is no marked route up there (but only up to Col?ul Pietrii, 1332m).
