Fishhook Barrel Cactus
This barrel cactus is under the are huddled together in the fierce desert heat of Arizona. The fishhook barrel cactus (Ferocactus wislizenii) can be identified by its thick 2 foot diameter barrel shaped body and long hooked spines. It produces yellow, pineapple-shaped fruit that is edible and a crown of flowers on the flat top. The Fish-hook barrel is a common barrel cactus growing in AZ. This one is located in Phoenix area.
