Ladybugs are small insects, generally between 1 and 10 mm in size (exceptionally over one centimetre), usually hemispherical in shape, generally with showy liveries in contrasting colours.Despite their apparent harmlessness and friendly appearance, almost all Coccinellids are actually active predators with notable voracity to the point that cases of cannibalism and rather sophisticated predatory behavior are frequent. For these reasons they are among the most interesting predators used in biological warfare.
