In 2015, a carillon with 37 bells was installed in Baia Mare, with weights ranging from 8 kg for the smallest and 98 kg for the largest, covering three octaves. It is located in the historic center of Baia Mare, near the Stefan Tower. A carillon is a pitched percussion instrument that is played with a keyboard and consists of at least 23 bells. The bells are cast in bronze, hung in fixed suspension, and tuned in chromatic order so that they can be sounded harmoniously together. They are struck with clappers connected to a keyboard of wooden batons played with the hands and pedals played with the feet.
