The town is in the Middle Atlas on the road between Fez (Fès) and Meknès via Ifrane, at an altitude of 1300 metres, dominating the Saïs plain. The modern town of Immouzer was built in the early years of the French Protectorate in Morocco (1920s) as a resort and agricultural centre. It incorporates the Kasbah des Ait Seghrouchen with earth-sheltered houses built into the ground and surface irrigation channels
