Crescentia cujete L. is a tree species in the family Verbenaceae and genus Cucurbitaceae, with a height of 5-18 meters Branches spread out with fewer branches. Leaves clustered, 2-5, of varying sizes, broadly oblanceolate, slightly pointed at the top, narrowly wedge-shaped at the base, with feather like veins. Flowers solitary on small branches, drooping. The corolla is bell shaped, slightly curved, light green yellow, with brown veins. It opens at night and emits a foul odor, which is pollinated by bats. Fruit ovoid, berry, hairless, yellow to black.
