Plants of the genus Asteriscus differ within the family Asteraceae by being shrubby plants in which the capitula have yellow or whitish florets and ligules. The outer volucratic bracts are foliar and the receptacle has scales. All cypselas are the same, with a vilanus with very small and barely visible scales.
