Historic Jewel Box house detail Nob Hill San Francisco 8

This squashed looking home in the Nob Hill neighborhood of San Francisco was built for millionaire Herbert Law in 1910, supposedly with a tunnel under it, connecting it to what was originally the Flood Mansion which became the Pacific Union Club. According to legend, he had the tunnel built so he could travel, undetected, to visit his mistress across the street. Although an underground tunnel has recently been discovered, it seems to predate either of the two houses, and not quite positioned correctly to have been used for that purpose. As seen 24 May 2024.
