Pictured is an African bush elephant drinking from the edge of the Chobe River in Chobe National Park in Botswana, Africa. The elephant is squirting water into its mouth from the tip of its trunk. Elephants drink around eleven gallons of water a day and the herd visits this beach often. Elephants are herbivorous and will eat as much as six-hundred sixty pounds of leaves, twigs, fruit, bark, grass and roots a day. The binomial name is Loxodonta africana. The elephant was photographed from the Chobe River on a safari boat from the historic Chobe Game Lodge.
