Pictured is a blacksmith lapwing foraging on the ground in an open field in the Okavango Delta in Botswana, Africa. It is also called the blacksmith plover and the name derives from the repeated tink, tink, tink alarm call which suggests a blacksmith's hammer striking an anvil. They are boldly patterned in black, grey and white. The photograph was taken from a safari vehicle based at the Atzaro Okavango Camp. The binomial name is Vanelius armatus.
